Wesr

Danny Figueroa, who signs his work Wesr, is a Peruvian painter and muralist born in Chiclayo in 1980. He grew up in Lima, took up graffiti in 1996 and became one of the pioneers of the city's contemporary mural scene. Based in Berlin since September 2008, he keeps up a self-taught, multidisciplinary practice spanning walls, illustration and tattooing. His visual language blends twentieth-century futurism with pre-Inca Peruvian imagery and Japanese manga, often through masked figures drawn from the Ukuku of Andean folklore. His work has been shown across Latin America and Europe, including in Paris, Amsterdam, Heidelberg and São Paulo.
