Biography
Frédéric Penelle (Brussels, 1973 - 2020) was a Belgian engraver who spent his career taking woodcut out of its frame and off its fine papers. His black line, rooted in xylography, stages a bestiary of hybrid beings, absurd machines and enigmatic figures that he pasted and painted directly onto walls. From 2011 he developed Mécaniques Discursives with Yannick Jacquet, a long-running work pairing the oldest technique of image reproduction with the most recent digital technologies.
