Miss Chelove

Miss Chelove, real name Cita Sadeli (Bloomington, Indiana), is a muralist, art director and illustrator based in Washington, DC. Her work brings together the tropical mysticism of Java, where her family comes from, and the punk, go-go and graffiti culture of 1980s and 1990s Washington. Since 2011 she has built a large-scale mural practice, often through public commissions, foregrounding women of colour, nature and indigenous cultures in thick black line and strongly graphic faces. She has worked with the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Smithsonian Institution.
