Biography
François Schuiten (Brussels, 1956) is a Belgian artist and scenographer born into a family of architects. From 1983, with writer Benoît Peeters, he built Les Cités obscures, a cycle in which imaginary megacities mirror our real ones. His line, rooted in architecture and Art Nouveau, has also shaped Brussels metro stations, the Atomium and several world expositions. His mural Le Passage on rue du Marché au Charbon, painted in 1995, opens a trompe-l'oeil corridor down which two hatted silhouettes walk away.
