Afonsoul

Afonsoul is the working name of Afonso de Oliveira, a Brazilian muralist born in Santos and based in Lisbon. He studied industrial automation, environmental engineering and architecture before leaving formal education, started making digital portraits during the 2020 lockdown and moved to mural painting that same year. His work blends figuration and abstraction around human expression: realistically rendered faces set against flat geometric colour fields, on themes of identity, belonging and hope in hard times. He has painted across Brazil and Europe (Portugal, Spain, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany), including a 60 m² mural at Latin America's largest port and collaborations with UNESCO.
