Biography
Morris, real name Maurice De Bevere (Kortrijk, 1923 - Brussels, 2001), created Lucky Luke, who first appeared in October 1946 in Spirou magazine with the story "Arizona 1880". A practitioner of the ligne claire and part of the Marcinelle school, he devoted almost his entire career to this lone cowboy, with René Goscinny writing from 1955 onwards. It was Morris who popularised the phrase "ninth art" in the pages of Spirou in 1965. The series has passed 250 million albums sold.
