Biography
Albert Uderzo (Fismes, 1927 - Neuilly-sur-Seine, 2020) was the French artist behind Asterix. He met René Goscinny in 1951 at the International Press agency, and their collaboration produced Oumpah-Pah and then, in October 1959 in Pilote magazine, Asterix the Gaul, whose first album appeared in 1961. He also drew Tanguy et Laverdure to scripts by Jean-Michel Charlier. After Goscinny's death in 1977 he took over the writing alone until 2013; Asterix is today the most translated comic in the world, in 111 languages and with close to 380 million albums sold.
