Biography
Thiago Mazza is a Brazilian muralist born in 1984 in Belo Horizonte, in the state of Minas Gerais, where he lives and works. He holds a degree in graphic design from the State University of Minas Gerais, came to painting self-taught, and discovered graffiti in 2010.
His practice is devoted to depicting flora, especially tropical vegetation: dense foliage, fleshy petals and brightly coloured flowers that seem to overrun entire buildings. Each large-scale project begins with photographs of real plants gathered on forest excursions and arranged under strong natural light, so as to capture the contrasts of shadow and light he seeks in his compositions.
His murals dialogue with classical painting as much as with contemporary urban art. He has painted for many international festivals, including UpFest (UK), Artscape (Sweden), Stenograffia (Russia), MURO (Portugal), Vukovart (Croatia) and the Tbilisi Mural Fest (Georgia).
